This study investigates the effect of inquiry-based instruction on 8th graders’ motivation in learning physical science. 295 students participated in this study. The experimental group consisted of five classes (n=155), the “nested inquiry-based instruction model ” was carried out in three units: “The basic structures of matter”, “The structure of element ” and “Temperature and Heat ” over the duration of four months. The control group (textbook-based instruction) consisted five classes of students (n=140).
